According to CCTV5 program list (March 3, 2024), the European Basketball Cup is about to enter the final round of the group game, and 24 teams will play six games tonight and tomorrow night respectively to decide their own destiny. Which teams can qualify for the knockout rounds? How is the group ranking calculated? Let's have a look.
The competition system of the European Basketball Cup is that 24 teams are divided into four groups, with six teams in each group. The group competition adopts a single round robin competition system, and each team plays five games. After the group competition, the top four players of each group will be promoted to the knockout stage, which will adopt the single defeat knockout system until the champion is determined.
At present, eight teams have locked their seats in the knockout stage ahead of schedule, namely Spain, Serbia and Poland in Group A, Lithuania, Slovenia and Italy in Group B, Greece and the Czech Republic in Group C. The other 16 teams still have the hope of promotion. They will try their best to get the best results and ranking in the last round of the competition.
So, how is the group ranking calculated? According to the rules of the European Basketball Cup, if two or more teams in the group have the same points, the ranking will be determined according to the following order: winning/losing relationship>net winning points>number of goals>score in fair competition>European Basketball Association ranking. Among them, fair competition score refers to the sum of individual and technical fouls committed by a team in the game, the less the better. The European Basketball Association ranking refers to the comprehensive ranking of national teams by the European Basketball Federation, the higher the better.
