According to CCTV5 program list (February 20, 2024), the European Cup is the highest honor in European football. It is held every four years and has attracted the attention of countless fans. This year's European Cup was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but was postponed to this year due to the impact of the new coronal epidemic. In order to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the European Cup, this European Cup has also adopted special competition systems and rules. Let's take a look.
First of all, the finals of this European Cup will be held in 12 European cities, namely London, Rome, Munich, Baku, St. Petersburg, Amsterdam, Seville, Bucharest, Glasgow, Copenhagen, Budapest and Dublin. This is the first time in the history of the European Cup that there is no single host country, and it is also the largest number of participating cities in the history of the European Cup. Among them, London's Wembley Stadium will host two semi-finals and finals, and the other 11 cities will host three group matches and one knockout match (the last 16 or quarter finals) respectively.
Secondly, the number of teams participating in this European Cup is still 24, divided into 6 groups, with 4 teams in each group. The group match adopts the single round robin system. Each team plays three games, winning three points, drawing one point and losing zero point. After the group game, the first two teams of each group and the third team of the four best teams will be 16 teams in total and will be promoted to the knockout stage. In the knockout phase, a single game knockout system is adopted. If the two sides are even in the regular time, a 30 minute overtime match will be held. If the overtime match is still even, a penalty shoot out will be held until the victory is decided.
Finally, the ranking rules of this European Cup are as follows: if there are two or more teams with the same points in the group match, the ranking will be determined according to the following order: 1. The winning/losing relationship in the group; 2. Goal difference in the group; 3. Number of goals in the group; 4. Score of fair competition in the group (3 points for red card and 1 point for yellow card); 5. UEFA national team ranking. If two or more teams are eliminated in the same round in the knockout match, the ranking will be determined in the following order: 1. The winning or losing relationship in the knockout stage; 2. The goal difference in the knockout phase; 3. The number of goals in the knockout phase; 4. Fair competition score in the knockout stage; 5. UEFA national team ranking.
The European Cup will last from June 11 to July 11, a total of 32 days. There will be 51 matches to decide the supremacy of European football. CCTV5 will broadcast the highlights of this European Cup all the way. Please pay attention.
