On February 1, 2024, according to CCTV5 program list, the European Cup group match has entered the final round, and the number of qualification places for each group has not been completely determined. All teams are struggling to reach the last 16. So, how to understand the European Cup group points ranking? This article will provide you with a simple viewing guide so that you can see it at a glance.
There are six groups in the European Cup group match, each group has four teams, each team plays one game with the other three teams in the group, winning 3 points, drawing 1 point, losing 0 point. After the group game, the first two teams of each group will be directly promoted to the top 16. In addition, the third team of the four best teams will also be promoted to the top 16. The remaining eight teams will be eliminated.
So, how to judge which team is the third best team? UEFA stipulates that if the points of the third place in two or more groups are the same, they will be ranked in the following order:
- Goal difference
- Total goals
- Fair competition points (3 points for red cards, 1 point for yellow cards, and 3 points for two yellow cards changing into red cards)
- European ranking
If none of the above four criteria can be distinguished, the ranking will be determined by drawing lots.
At present, two rounds of European Cup group matches have been held, and the points ranking of each group is as follows:
